A Biedermeier column chest of drawers, Southern German circa 1820. Walnut veneer on pine.
On 4 block feet with ebonised foot plates, a four-drawer corpus with slightly projecting top plate. The 3 drawers are flanked by ebonised Tuscan half-columns on the pilaster strips under the projecting head drawer.
All drawers can be opened and closed with a key.
Dimensions:
93 cm high / 36.61 inch high,
116.5 cm wide / 45.86 inch wide,
60 cm deep / 23.62 inch deep.
Interior dimensions of the drawers:
9 or 17 cm high / 3.54 or 6.69 inch high,
96,4 cm wide / 37.95 inch wide,
51 or 47,5 cm deep / 20.07 or 18.7 inch deep.
Good condition, restored for everyday use, with age-related signs of use including scratches in places and white paint inclusions in the surface.
In the course of the restoration the following work was done: Surface cleaned, minor putties and retouches, and polished up. All black ebonised elements removed, craquelure varnish removed, stained black, polished and reapplied.
