Free-standing desk, so-called bureau plat “aux pattes de lion”, in Empire style. France, early 20th century. Made of solid mahogany. Good refinished condition (among other things damaged surface sealing sanded off, ebonised and transparently sealed).

Rectangular table frame resting on an H-brace with a straight frame on volute supports ending in fully sculpted brass paw feet. Slightly overhanging top with gold-pressed leather covered work surface. One side with 3 drawers, 2 with original lock and key, one with new lock and key.

Brass fittings in the shape of the French imperial eagle of the 1st (Empire, Napoleon I.) or 2nd (Napoleon III.) French Empire.
