The artist Arnold Böcklin was born in 1827 in the Swiss City Basel and died in 1901 in San Domenico. He studied at the famous German art academy in Düsseldorf with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. Böcklin was among others in Rome, Weimar, Basel, Florence and Munich, where King Ludwig I and the art collector Adolf Friedrich von Schack became aware of him. Works by this artist are represented among others in various German museums.
