A pair of Italian Baroque ‘poltrone’ or armchairs. Probably from the Umbria region, 17th century and later. Solid walnut with upholstered seat and backrest and remnants of the original velvet brocade.

Walnut frame in cleated construction with turned feet and cross struts, forward curved, volute-like converging armrests and slightly raised backrest with curved end. The seat and backrest are upholstered. The cover was probably renewed in the late 20th century with a velvet cover to which remnants of the original velvet brocade (a patterned velvet with raised pile and woven ground) were attached.
