Gothic revival choir screens resp. 2 balustrades from the late 19th century. Solidly made of oak wood and cast iron.
Choir screens have been part of the interior decoration of churches since early Christian times. Today, as then, they separate the space for the clergy (choir) from the lay space. The front side was therefore intended for the believing public, while the back side was only visible to the clergy.
This example has transverse rectangular balustrades made of oak with profiled cranked bases and cornices. A cast-iron insert with trefoil motifs and finials is flanked by blind tracery. At the back of each is a small lockable door, which presumably served to store liturgical candles.

79.5 cm high / 31.3 inch high,
202.5 cm wide / 79.7 inch wide,
22.5 cm deep / 8.9 inch deep.
Restored to a living room standard (including new locks fitted, surface waxed).
