Late 19th Century Gothic Revival Shop Counter made of Oak

A gothic revival counter from the late 19th century. Originally an altar table, this sacred piece of furniture was converted into a bistro counter in the 20th century. Made of solid oak with gold-coloured accents.

A gothic revival counter from the late 19th century. Originally an altar table, this sacred piece of furniture was converted into a bistro counter in the 20th century. Made of solid oak with gold-coloured accents.

Oak body standing on a rectangular base, open at the back and coffered at the sides, with a projecting moulded cornice and top panel. Front decorated with Gothic tracery consisting of 5 coffers. Central ‘tracery window’ with quatrefoil and golden Christ monogram ‘IHS’.

Open back fitted with 2 shelves of different depths.

Height: 98.5 cm / 38.77 inch.

Width: 190 cm / 74.8 inch.

Depth: 58 cm / 22.83 inch.

Shelf depth: 26 cm (10.23 inch) or 34.5 cm (13.58 inch).

Height distance between the shelf levels (from bottom to top): 38.5 / 41 cm (15.15 / 16.14 inch), 27.5 cm (10.82 inch), 15 cm (5.9 inch).

 

In good slightly restored condition. Stable with wax polished surface.

The counter cannot be dismantled for transport.
