A provincial bombe chest of drawers or ‘commode tombeau’ in the Louis XV/Transition style. Early 19th century. Made from cherry and walnut. Restored for everyday use.

A provincial bombe chest of drawers or ‘commode tombeau’ in the Louis XV/Transition style. Early 19th century. Made from cherry and walnut. Restored for everyday use.

Three drawer walnut and cherrywood body, bombed on all sides, coffered on the sides, with moulded top panel and multi-curved plinth frame ending in 4 slanted, slightly S-shaped feet. The drawers are made with dovetail joints. The interior and back panels are made of pinewood.

Presumably later but stylistically matching drop handles complete the furniture.

Depth: 58.5 cm / 23.03 inch.

Internal dimensions of the drawers: 16 cm (6.3 in.) high, 86.5 cm (34.06 in.) wide, 49.5 cm (19.49 in.) deep

 

In good condition with slight signs of age-related wear including partially old woodworm channels (not active!). The running function of the drawers has been optimised. 1 key for 2 locks.
