19th Century Provincial Oak Chest of Drawers

Large provincial chest of drawers with classicist decoration. Dutch-Belgian border region, first half of the 19th century. Solidly crafted in oak. Ready for everyday use with a beautiful  bleached surface.

Large provincial chest of drawers with classicist decoration. Dutch-Belgian border region, first half of the 19th century. Solidly crafted in oak. Ready for everyday use with a beautiful  bleached surface.

Oak body standing on four claw-and-ball feet, with side panels in traditional frame and panel construction with a slight central risalit, fluted sloping pilaster strips, crossbars with a continuous stylized ear of corn frieze and profiled top panel. Four large drawers with fronts decorated with frame and panel motifs, central festoons, and rosettes in relief carving in ribbon and braided band designs. Key plates and drop handles mounted in brass.

Interior dimensions of drawers: 19.5 cm (7.68 in.) high, 109 cm (42.91 in.) wide, 52.5 cm (20.67 in.) deep

 

Restored and ready to use, with slight signs of age and repairs to the back panel. No keys. The dark surface coating has been removed from the wood and it has been bleached, revealing the light texture of the oak wood without any sealant.
